How does Vitamin K2 improve the health benefits of Vitamin D?

Recent research confirmed a synergistic relationship between vitamin K2 and vitamin D3 in promoting bone and cardiovascular health. Vitamin D3 enhances the absorption of dietary calcium from the gut and its deposition in bones. Excessive absorption of calcium or high levels of calcium in blood may lead to its deposition in blood vessels including coronary arteries which may result in calcification of these blood vessels and thus increasing the risk of atherosclerosis (hardening of arteries).

Vitamin K2 activates a protein called “osteocalcin” and this activated protein enhances the deposition of absorbed calcium into the mineral matrix of the bones. Moreover, vitamin K2 inhibits the activity of osteoclasts which usually break down bone matrix. Thus, vitamin K2 works synergistically with vitamin D3 to make our bones stronger and to maintain an optimal bone density.

How does vitamin K2 prevent atherosclerosis?

Vitamin K2 activates a protein called “GIa” or “MGP” and this activated protein prevents the deposition of excessive calcium in blood vessels taking into consideration that calcification of arteries is a major cause of atherosclerosis.

Based on the above scientific basis, we have developed our new product “Fine’s D3 + K2 Bone Booster” for kids and soon we will develop a similar product for adults.

What is “Fine’s D3 + K2 Bone Booster” used for?

This product is used to prevent or treat low blood calcium levels (hypocalcemia) in people who do not get enough calcium from their diets. If calcium is not enough in the blood, then the body will take calcium from bones and thus bones become weak and fragile leading to low bone density. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium and phosphorus.

Vitamin K2 provides cardiovascular protection by preventing calcification of the blood vessels and preventing the development of atherosclerosis.

Scientific research has demonstrated you can have enough vitamin K from diet to promote healthy blood clotting but you may not have enough vitamin K2 to activate the Gla-proteins necessary to help prevent cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and cancer, all conditions in which vitamin K-dependent proteins play essential roles.

The health benefits of vitamin K2 go far beyond blood clotting, which is accomplished by vitamin K1, and vitamin K2 also works synergistically with a number of other nutrients, including calcium and vitamin D. Its biological role is to help move calcium into the proper areas in your body, such as your bones and teeth.

Can Vitamin K2 reverse arterial calcification?

Arterial calcification increases the risk of heart attacks. Vitamin K2 helps regulate calcium balance, keeping calcium in the bones and out of the arteries. Insufficient vitamin K2 accelerates arterial calcification, while restoring vitamin K2 can help reverse arterial calcification.
